THE LAKE

We have carried out extensive work on the lake to make it suitable for carp fishing.

It was drained in March 2006 and left dry for 6 months while the silt was removed. During this period the lake was enlarged and the river feeding the lake was diverted around one side of the lake with a new inlet allowing us to erect the grills required by law and giving us a degree of control over the water levels. Apart from being river fed the lake also has many natural springs so water levels remain good even in the driest summers.

We created 4 islands along with plateaux and gullies that with the lily beds give plenty of features to fish to. The lakebed is predominately hard mud with a few areas of sand and gravel and one side of the lake is soft silt. Depths range from approximately 1 metre to 4 metres at the dam.

The banks are tree lined, predominately alder and willow with some overhanging specimens of willow for margin fishing.

There are 11 purpose built swims one of which is a double. All the swims are flat with plenty of room for a large (2-man) bivvy, 2 bivvies in the double swim and give easy access to the water for the safe return of fish.

The lake is situated just outside of the market town of Saint Yrieix la Perche in a semi rural area, making it a quiet and relaxing holiday. It is approximately a 10-minute walk to the town, which has a fairly good selection of shops, supermarkets, bars and restaurants.
